Connect your apps safely

Connect only the apps this job needs, and sign in yourself in the browser. Gmail and Google Calendar are separate connections, each with its own sign-in. Do not type a password into the chat.

  1. 01

Add a plugin from the sidebar

A plugin is an add-on that connects an app. The help pages also call these connectors. Open Connect apps in the sidebar, the list along the side of the window. Browse the plugins, choose Add, and finish the sign-in in your browser if it asks.

Treat Gmail and Calendar as two sign-ins

The Gmail and Google Calendar page says they are separate connectors, each with its own sign-in. It also says the base Gmail connection is read-only, and that writing and sending turn on separately. Start by asking the bot to read and summarize, not to send.

  3. 03

    Type secrets yourself

When a site needs a password, passkey, two-factor code, or CAPTCHA, choose Take over, enter it yourself, then choose I'm done. Do not paste a password or a one-time code into the chat.

    Remember the shared computer

Installed connectors are for the whole account, not locked to one bot. Your bots also share one cloud computer, including browser sign-ins. Separate bots are not a wall between accounts. Sign out of a site when you no longer need that login on the shared machine.

Remove access when you are done

Uninstall the connector and revoke it in the app that owns the account, such as Google's own permissions page. The troubleshooting page says that if access was revoked at the source, remove the plugin and connect it again only if you still want it.

Questions

Where do I type my Gmail password?
In the browser sign-in, or on the computer screen when you take over. The get-started page says not to put the password in the chat. You enter it, then hand control back.
Will connecting Gmail let the bot send mail?
The Gmail help page says the base connection is read-only, and send tools turn on separately. Even then, ask for a draft. You choose Send or Discard on the card.
Do all of my bots see the same login?
Browser sign-ins on the shared cloud computer are available to the bots on your account. A connector you install is account-wide too. Do not treat a second bot as a separate lock.
