Make your first bot in 10 minutes

You can make a first bot in one short sitting. Give it a short name, one job, and one task. The get-started page includes a first task that needs no app login.

  1. 01

    Plan on a short sitting

The Grok Bot 101 guide says standing a bot up takes about 10 or 15 minutes. The get-started page describes a first result you can try without connecting an app. This lesson follows that page, not a timer we invented.

  2. 02

    Create the bot

Choose a suggested teammate, or create your own with a short name, one main job, and a description of how it should work. Later, New, then Create new Bot, adds another one. The sidebar is the list of bots along the side of the window.

    Give it one task

A strong request names the outcome, the sources, the limits, what it should hand back, and when it should stop for you. For a first pass, attach a document and ask for a short summary that does not change the file.

    Read the result

If something is missing, say so and ask for a revision. When the way of working should stick, say that preference in a sentence the bot can reuse.

Questions

What if I do not want to connect Gmail yet?
You do not have to. The get-started page suggests a first task that only uses a document you attach, and that does not change the file.
Should my first bot do every job?
No. A bot with one clear job is easier for the app to remember than a do-everything bot. You can always add another bot when a second job appears.
Where are the install clicks?
They are on the get-started page, for Mac, Windows, and Linux. This lesson starts after you can open the app.
