Teach your bot a task once

A skill is a method you save so the bot can do that task again. You can ask it to save a task you just finished, or show the clicks once with Teach a task. On the desktop app you start a saved skill by typing a slash in the message box.

  1. 01

    Do the task once

Finish a real task in the conversation first. A skill is that method, saved. The message box is where you type. The docs call it the composer.

  2. 02

Ask it to save the skill

Tell the bot to turn the steps you just used into a named skill. Spell out when to run it, what inputs it needs, how to verify the output, what to return, and where it must stop for your yes.

  3. 03

    Call it with a slash

On the desktop app, type / and choose the skill. Saved private skills live in one pool every bot on your account can call. If it is missing, open Connect apps, then Your plugins, then Manage plugins and skills, and look under Private skills.

    Or show the clicks

When screen teaching is available, open a one-to-one chat and its computer view, start Teach a task, and walk through the site once. The capture lasts up to ten minutes and watches the screen, not your voice. Keep secrets off the recording.

  5. 05

Read the draft before you trust it

Stop the recording and read the skill it writes. Add the decisions and the stop-for-yes rules that one example does not show. If you do not see Teach a task, ask the bot to write the skill from the finished task. The button may appear only after a gradual rollout.

Questions

What is the slash for?
On the desktop app, typing / in the message box opens saved skills so you can pick one. Typing @ is how you point at a bot, a group, a routine, or a connector.
Does every bot see my skills?
Private skills sit in a shared library for your account. A bot may still need the right connector or login to run one.
What if Teach a task is missing?
Demonstration capture rolls out over time. If the control is not there, describe the finished task and ask the bot to write a skill from your notes.
