Make your bot run on its own
A routine is a saved job that runs on a schedule, or after an event, including while your computer is off. Make the job work once by hand before you put it on a timer. The shortest schedule is every 5 minutes.
- 01
Save a method that already works
A skill is a saved method the bot can run again. Finish the task once, save it, and run it by hand. Automate it after the result is one you would accept.
- 02
Ask the bot that should own it
Name the skill, the schedule, the time zone, the input, the result, where it must stop for you, and what to do when data is unavailable. It should reply with the next scheduled run once the routine exists.
- 03
Keep the schedule at least five minutes apart
Timers cannot fire more often than once every 5 minutes. One bot may run dozens of routines, with a cap noted on the skills page. A test run is live: it can touch sites, files, and plugins, so use harmless inputs.
- 04
Turn it on, and know how to pause it
Scheduled jobs can keep going after you close the laptop. From the bot chat, open conversation details, then the Routines list, to pause or inspect runs. Only the latest batch of run history is kept. Removing a routine takes effect right away.
Questions
- Will it run if my laptop is shut?
- Yes. Scheduled jobs can keep going after you shut the laptop. Hiding the bot from the sidebar does not pause those routines.
- What is a test run?
- A test run is not a simulation: it can open sites, edit files, and call plugins. Use a safe input, and check that it stopped where you asked it to stop.
- Can an event start the job?
- Yes, where a Cursor account integration supports it, such as a Slack message. The docs say to use a narrow match, not every new message. Those integrations are separate from a Slack plugin.
- What if I am away for a long time?
- After a long break the app may ask whether unattended jobs should keep going. If you do not answer, it can pause them. Open Routines when you are back and review anything paused.
